March 14th, 2018 – The tight single track, sand washes and cactus posed a new kind of challenge for National Hare and Hound racers this past weekend in Kalgary, Texas for round 3 of the 2018 AMA KENDA SRT National Hare and Hound Championship Series presented by FMF.
YOUTH
PEEWEE – Stealing the holeshot and the overall lead, Grady Ballow topped the PeeWee podium after leading the 30-minute race from start to finish. Coming in 2nd OA for the PeeWee race, Ryder Tucker raced a very consistent race, securing a spot on the podium next to Ballow and 3rd place Jett Tucker. All three riders enjoyed celebrating with podium cider and a crowd of fans.
MICRO MINI – Taking home his 3rd consecutive win for the Micro Mini class, Jett Lessing had another early lead to the race when he raced to the Performance Diesel holeshot flags; making way for a dust free path to the checker flag. Kayden Lynn raced behind Lessing for 2nd in class and OA. Brennen Watson came in 3rd for the Micro Mini class and 4th OA.GIRLS – The Girls class saw Kassidy Laswell take the class holeshot off the start, but Laswell’s race would end early after a mechanical failure soon after would claim any possibility of continuing the race. This left the door wide open for an OA win from Ty Woolslayer with an average lap time of 24-minutes. Ty led for the Girls class the entire race, battling it out with 2nd place for the Micro Mini class, Kayden Lynn.
BIG WHEEL – The final race of the day saw the Big Wheel, Mini and Jr. Mini classes lined up ready to take on the red Texas dirt. Off the start Deagan Ingram immediately took control of the race, jumping into the lead and breaking away. Meanwhile Dominic Craighill focused on chasing down Ingram over the next hour and a half. Racing his way to 3rd overall in race 3, Jayden Waugh put an impressive performance in on his KTM.
BIG BIKES
WOMEN – Leading start to finish, the Women’s class saw a win from KTM-backed Brandy Richards, her first Hare and Hound win for the 2018 race season! With Britney Gallegos in 2nd and Rachel Stout in 3rd, Factory Beta’s Morgan Tanke came in 4th for the Women’s class. Currently, Gallegos leads the class with 55-points, 7-points Tanke and Stout.
PRO 250 – Leading the Pro 250 class for the entire race, Factory Beta’s Chance Fullerton took home his second consecutive win for the 2018 race season, topping the podium next to Daemon Woolslayer and Tayson Weeks. Team SRT-Husqvarna backed Morgan Crawford and 3Bros STI Husqvarna backed Jake Alvarez battled it out for 4th place, with Crawford finishing in 4th and Alvarez in 5th.
PRO – After a solid victory at round 2 in El Centro, California, Kendall Norman ventured into round 3 with confidence for a repeat performance. Immediately taking the holeshot after the banner dropped, Norman used the clear air to begin building a gap on the rest of the field. Over the course of loop one, Purvines Racing backed Nick Burson raced behind Norman, trying to close the gap between himself while holding off Chidester Transport Racing’s Jacob Argubright. Argubright suffered from a crash that would ultimately end his day, leaving room for his teammate Tyler Lynn to advance. Coming into the pits from loop one, Norman already held the lead by over 3-minutes ahead of Burson and Lynn with no sign of slowing down. Pro 250 leader came through the chute 4th overall, ahead of Joe Wasson and class competition Clayton Gerstner.
On loop two, Norman continued to build his lead, leaving clear air for Burson to charge and Lynn to do the same. Gerstner made his move on Fullerton to sit 4th overall, while Eric Yorba made the pass on Wasson for 6th overall. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Racing’s Dalton Shirey move from 7th to 8th on loop two, while and SRT’s Ryan Smith and Chidester Transport Racing’s Daemon Woolslayer battled for the final two top 10 positions. Norman crossed the finish line to claim his second consecutive victory, with Burson and Lynn joining him on either side atop the podium.
