RACE REFEREE AND RISK MANAGEMENT
Race Referee:
- Each Club MUST provide a certified AMA Referee. To become a Race Referee, please see below for Referee Training, Reports and Information.
- Start the process of becoming a trained AMA referee With AMA Class C Referee Training. AMA Class C Referee Training provides the foundation for the AMA’s referee program. First, download the Class C Referee Study Guide to review (once it opens, make sure you save it to your computer for reference later), and then click here to take the online test. If you pass, you’ll receive an AMA Class C Referee certificate. Those who have completed AMA Class C Referee Training are invited to participate in AMA Class B Referee Training, which covers discipline-specific topics.

Risk Management:
- Workshops: AMA-chartered clubs and promoters must complete an AMA Risk Management Workshop every year. To ensure AMA sanction eligibility, organizers are encouraged to turn in the Affidavit of Review with their annual charter application. This requirement can be met by viewing a series of online risk management videos and returning a signed Affidavit of Review to the AMA.

COURSE MARKINGS
The AMA National Hare and Hound series follows the marking standards and guidelines thoughtfully developed by The Kurt Caselli Foundation. All host clubs must utilize these markings and mark to the standard as outline. All course marking Cards and Ribbon will be provided for your event. To request additional marking materials, please contact safety@kurtcaselli.com.
As of the time of this writing, The Kurt Caselli Foundation has additional tools available to help make your races safer. Please have your club contact us at safety@kurtcaselli.com to obtain the below materials.
- Course Marking cards and Ribbon. The Foundation has care packages available with all of the markings and ribbon colors discussed in this guide.
- Safety Vests. Course workers at checks, road crossings, start finish, etc should be wearing safety vests.
- Yellow Caution Flags.
- Race in progress signs. We urge all events to post signs at every possible entrance into OHV areas and throughout the heavily congested trails to alert recreational traffic that there is a race going on that weekend.
